The history of ŠKODA Motorsport – 110 years of passion
2011 is very special for the Czech Republic's biggest carmaker. This year it has been 110 years
since the company founders Messrs. Laurin & Klement sent one of their cars to the first battle, an
international “marathon” race from Paris to Berlin. Narcis Podsedníček, a worker, designer,
foreman and car racer in one, left an unforgettable trace in the history of that race – he was even
faster than the timekeepers! When he arrived in the finish area at 3 AM, nobody was awaiting him,
and so he decided to have his time registered by a police constable, but not by authorised race
officials, for which he was then disqualified. That, however, could not deter ŠKODA from further
racing efforts, and the “winged arrows” set out to conquer the world of speed.
